Entering is easy, but you must visit the Smartway Builders stand at the Kāpiti Women's Expo. The competition QR code will only be available at the Expo, and entries cannot be submitted online beforehand.

Who Can Enter?
Whether you're just beginning to dream about a new home or major renovation, or you're already exploring your options, this competition could be for you.
You don't need completed plans, a final design or a confirmed building budget to enter.
You May Be Eligible If...
You're aged 18 or over.
You're considering a new residential build, major renovation, substantial extension or alteration.
Your proposed project is within Smartway's service area, including the Kāpiti Coast up to Ōtaki, Wellington, Porirua or the Hutt Valley.
You own the property, have the owner's authority to explore the project, or are considering a new build on a section you have not yet purchased.
You can attend the Expo to enter, or someone attending can nominate you.
Projects That Aren't Suitable
Minor home repairs and maintenance work.
Small cosmetic improvements such as painting or replacing fixtures.
Commercial or non-residential construction projects.
Projects outside Smartway's service area that Smartway cannot reasonably service.
Projects that cannot reasonably proceed through Smartway's Build Smart process.
Nominating someone?
You can enter on behalf of a friend, family member or someone you know who may benefit from the Build Smart Experience. If your nomination is selected, Smartway will contact you to arrange an introduction with their permission. The nominated person must meet the competition's eligibility requirements.
Eligibility is subject to the full Competition Terms & Conditions, including confirmation that the proposed project is suitable for Smartway's Build Smart Experience.

Smartway Builders helps homeowners across Kāpiti and the Greater Wellington region turn their building and renovation ambitions into reality.
We understand that building a new home or undertaking a major renovation is a significant decision. Before committing to detailed design, consent applications or construction, homeowners need to understand what's possible, what their options are and what their project could cost.
That's why we developed Build Smart, a structured process that brings together architectural design, practical building expertise and preliminary costing to help homeowners make informed decisions with greater clarity and confidence.
Our approach is built around three commitments: Clarity. Confidence. Certainty.
1. Do I need to have plans already drawn?
No. You don't need completed architectural plans or a final design. The Build Smart Experience helps you explore your ideas and develop an initial understanding of what may be possible.
2. Do I need to own a section to enter for a new build?
No. You can enter if you're considering building a new home but haven't purchased a section yet, althoughy the Build Smart process will need an appropriate site before site-specific design and feasibility work can be completed.
3. Can I enter for someone else?
Yes. You can nominate a friend, family member or someone you know. If your nomination is selected, Smartway will contact you to arrange an introduction with their permission. The nominee must meet the eligibility requirements.
4. Can I enter the competition online?
No. Entries are available exclusively at the Smartway Builders stand at the Kāpiti Women's Expo on Sunday 1 November 2026. You must attend the Expo and scan the competition QR code to submit an entry.
5. Does the prize include building the home or renovation?
No. The prize is the Build Smart Experience, which includes concept design, feasibility assessment and preliminary costing. Detailed design, consent work and construction are not included.
6. Will I have to pay anything to Smartway if I win?
No purchase from Smartway Builders is required to enter or receive the included Build Smart Experience. Any services beyond the prize scope would be separately discussed and agreed before proceeding.
7. What if I'm only at the dreaming stage?
That's fine. Build Smart is designed to help people understand their possibilities before committing to expensive detailed design and consent work. Any project must still satisfy the competition's eligibility requirements.
8. What happens if I win?
Smartway will contact the selected entrant and confirm eligibility and project suitability. If the entry is a nomination, Smartway will contact the entrant to obtain the nominee's permission before contacting them directly. The prize will then be arranged in accordance with the Competition Terms & Conditions.
